Let's get physical
SO, I hope you’ve all been watching the new X Files...…
“the truth is out there” : )
We had a great time last week at MTL...
we discussed none other than TRUTH...
and I completely embarrassed myself giving Madonna credit for the song “Let’s Get Physical” instead of the one and only Olivia Newton John...
thank you Cindy Madonna (whoa, that’s weird) for steering me right.
All too often we narrow TRUTH down to something along the lines of
the correct information,
mental agreement in the right beliefs, etc.
Most of which I entirely get suckered into accepting as TRUTH.
But our task last time we met together was to place TRUTH into the larger context of the story of our lives and to not limit or restrict or reduce TRUTH in our lives to merely one dimension of ourselves like our intellect.
What if TRUTH is MORE?
What if TRUTH is a particular way of living and breathing?
What if TRUTH cannot be written down or recited or memorized...
but instead must be expressed through the medium of our lives and this story we find ourselves in?
That saying that everyone throws around- “The truth will set you free.”
Jesus said that.
And what’s really interesting is that before he said that, he said the following:
“If you hold to my teaching...…then you will know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will set you free.”
That gets me excited...
because Jesus taught about things like forgiveness and inclusivity and generosity and love.
I hear Jesus saying that TRUTH is MORE than belief...…
it’s more than my IQ...…
it’s about my entire being, my whole story...…
TRUTH is a particular way of living this life.
I recently learned that “knowing TRUTH” refers to firsthand experience...…
in fact, the word “know” was used to convey sexual intimacy.
In other words, you can’t just say you know truth...…
you need firsthand experience of TRUTH...…
you have to get physical with it : )
TRUTH is something tangible and real...…really real!
It’s something you step into and practice and live...…
and as a result you know it...
and it sets you free.
Free from what? That's the question we now need to explore.
See you next time on February 10th at MTLbreck!
