And you thought MTL was on pause until Fall. Well, it is… but the MTL Blog will keep on keeping : ) That’s right, so expect some good food for thought via emails and blog posts. So until I can finish the summer MTL playlist and dive into some good tunes and lyrics, ponder this. Proust said, “Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” The majority of our time is spent concerned with the routine of daily living. We wake up, we get ready, we go to work, we eat lunch, we work, we do chores, we watch television, we sleep. Then we do it all over again. But for a few moments every so often, we get to experience something more. We get to witness pure beauty… and when we do, we pause, amazed. We revel in its feeling and depth. We are hardwired to tap into more than just the surface of life. Have you ever seen a mountain and felt at a loss for words? Or stood watching the ocean and lost track of time?
That’s the same feeling we sense in the presence of good company. That mountain is more than simply trees and meadows and rocks. that ocean is more than merely water and crashing waves. those people are more than just names and personalities and a good time. There are moments in life when we get to grab a piece of transcendence and take it with us. And suddenly, we don’t have to trek to a coastline or to the top of a mountain to feel connected to something timeless and meaningful, and instead we can feel the beauty of the ocean and enormity of the mountains within our own hearts. And that’s because love is enormous and to take even a tiny piece of love into yourself and be able to experience and understand it is the greatest gift in the world. As children, it is easy to see that sort of magic in the world; as adults, we need someone to remind us. So today, I give you permission to interrupt the routine and take a moment to cherish and celebrate the gardeners of your soul, and to remember how important love is to all of us.
